Sashi Moorman / Winemaker

Sashi Moorman’s career in wine grew out of his interest in cooking and food. After graduating from Vassar College, Sashi worked in New York City and Washington, D.C., cooking professionally as a line-cook and sous-chef.

In 1996, Sashi moved to Ojai, California to work a five-year apprenticeship under Adam Tolmach at The Ojai Vineyard. In 2001, Sashi joined Stolpman Vineyards, integrating the winemaking and vineyard direction under one program. In 2007, he planted what was to become the benchmark-setting vineyard on the western edge of the Sta. Rita Hills knowns as Domaine De La Côte. In 2009, he joined forces with Rajat Parr to also start Sandhi, a winery focused on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from select vineyard sites in the Sta. Rita Hills. In 2013, he joined the Pence Vineyard team as Consulting Winemaker bringing his vast industry experience to their winemaking and vineyard program, and over-seeing John Faulkner’s efforts on our day to day winemaking.

Sashi and his wife, Melissa Sorongon, also own Piedrasassi, a small winery and bakery where they produce Syrah from distinct Santa Barbara County vineyards and grow heirloom wheat varieties for the production of wood-fired brick oven baked traditional breads.

Sashi and Melissa live in Lompoc, California with their 10-year old daughter, Juliet.
