Cold-climate Syrahs show a strong fruit component but they reveal a more rustic and briary side. Also, instead of being entirely fruit driven, the wines are far more nuanced with layers of non-fruited complexity that are intriguing upon release and will unfold for years to come. Tell-tale cold-climate Syrahs have black and green olive nuances along with other Mediterranean aromas of thyme, lavender and brine. Other less fruited but charming notes of earth, peppercorns, tobacco, leaf litter and baking spices often weave throughout great examples. And arguably the most important aspect, these wines are fantastic at the table with any grilled meats, particularly lamb; roasted vegetables like onion, tomato, bell peppers and eggplant; and any savory winter dishes like hearty stews.

Behind the label

Red black in color with dark brooding notes of earth, black-blue briary fruits, fennel and dark chocolate. Peppercorns, black olive, tobacco, saddle and charcoal subtly weave throughout. The palate is refreshingly alive with all the above complexity intertwined throughout leaving a significant and weighty mouthfeel impression. Long-lived and a must decant if drunk within the year. Will drink well for 5+ years.

Vineyard

Because of our love for the Northern Rhône, the Sebastiano Vineyard and our preference for less bombastic Syrah, we embarked four years ago on planting three acres of own Estate Syrah vineyards. This is our second bottling and we hope you also find the charming side of this incredibly fascinating grape.

Production

100% concrete fermented entirely as wild yeast. 25% whole-cluster fermented. Aged in neutral wood. 394 cases. 13.8% alcohol.
