2020 Estate Gamay

each

Our budwood was sourced from one of the oldest plantings in the U.S., which has subsequently been ripped out, and was grafted on to a block of our Pinot Noir in 2014. Most importantly, this wine should not be confused with the stylistically different, but more commonly known Beaujolais Nouveau. Our version is inspired by the more serious ‘Cru Beaujolais’, which produce a darker, fuller bodied, more complex and terroir-driven wine that will age gracefully for years. Gamay exhibits Pinot Noir-like qualities is an excellent food-pairing wine with its moderate acidity, light body, restrained tannins, and tangy fruit notes allow it to stand up to both hearty foods and lighter dishes.

Behind the label

Pretty nuances of rose flowers and cranberry mix with sandalwood, dried herb and leaf-litter. The palate is full of bright red fruits like pomegranate, rhubarb and red raspberry blend with holiday and mulling spices. The finish has energy drive enveloping your entire mouth. It is a perfect pairing for all things autumnal: bouillabaisse, squash, pork belly, stews, and every component of your Thanksgiving dinner! It is a wine that is both graceful and wild, and will continue to gain complexity as it ages.

Production

Utilizing traditional French methods, our Gamay is fermented carbonically in a large closed concrete tank using 100% native yeast. The fruit is literally dropped in by hand and the lid is then sealed. After fermentation, the wine is pressed and transferred to neutral French Oak puncheons, aged for 9 months and bottled young. 400 cases produced. 12% alcohol.
