2020 Estate PTG

each

The estate grown PTG is our version of the little known PasseToutGrains made in Burgundy and is traditionally a blend of Gamay and Pinot Noir. Gamay thrives particularly in the southern portion of Burgundy and is generally a higher-yielding varietal, but shares many of the delicate characteristics associated with Pinot Noir. The reason for its unknown value here in the U.S. is that most PasseToutGrains are consumed in Paris bistros due to its wonderful food affinity and drinkability. We harvest from two bordering rows of Gamay and Pinot Noir to ensure even ripening and similar aspects.

Behind the label

A bright ruby red color that hints at its juicy red fruit flavors. Aromas of dried roses, cran-berries and cherries balance by mild spices and minerality. Fruity and supple on the palate with a nice freshness. The depth and sophistication of a Pinot Noir with the levity and floral notes of a Gamay create an exceedingly versatile, well-balanced wine that is as refreshing as it is age-worthy.

Vineyard

At Pence Vineyards, we harvest from two bordering rows of Gamay and Pinot Noir to ensure even ripening and similar aspects.

Production

Our PTG is 50% Pinot Noir and 50% Gamay, co-fermented carbonically in a closed concrete fermenter with native yeast, and then aged in neutral cask. 960 cases.
